The Woolsey fire occurred in November 2018 near the city of Los Angeles in the state of California, US. The fire started on November 8, and lasted nearly two weeks.
The Woolsey event destroyed local infrastructures, prompted the evacuation of nearly 300,000 people, and impacted on atmospheric composition and regional air quality. The image shows TROPOMI/Sentinel-5 Precursor observations of HONO (slant columns) over the Woolsey fire on November 9, 2018, overlaid on the RGB image from the VIIRS/S-NPP sensor. Nitrous acid is detected mostly close to the fire, with slant columns up to 1 x 1016 molec/cm².
